This has nothing to do with trying to play nice with other SMS services. Apple controls the text sent out and could easily detect that text, since Apple controls it, and display it with the emoji etc. Apple has zero motivation to play nice with other SMS services. Unless there is some federal/government-level mandate that we should all use a particular messaging protocol, it will always be a problem. Invariably there is at least one non-Apple user in the group so messages are sent over SMS and when someone with Apple Messages reacts I get a whole new copy of the message quoted with something like "so and so liked this message". I am on multiple messages groups created by parents of kids in various bands, teams, youth groups. Would be nice if Apple caught up with this when an Apple Messages user reacts to a message in a "non-blue" group conversation.
